Recently, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), of the Ministry of Finance, updated and released the list of companies authorized to offer fixed-odds bets nationwide. There are currently 79 authorized companies, 72 of which have authorizations issued by the Federal Government and seven by force of court order.
“Unauthorized platforms can expose s to risks such as fraud, loss of money, misuse of personal data, in addition to the lack of legal mechanisms for resolving conflicts, since these companies are not subject to consumer protection standards established by the country's legislation,” says Tiago Venâncio, Head of Procon-BA.
“The legalization and supervision of betting houses are fundamental measures to protect consumers and curb abusive and illegal practices. Therefore, it is essential that the public knows and uses only authorized platforms”, reinforces the manager.
Venâncio also highlighted the agency's commitment to protecting and defending consumer rights, through educational actions and inspections to ensure a safe and transparent consumer environment.
“Therefore, in addition to providing tips for consumers to use the platforms safely, we are publishing the list of companies regulated by the Federal Government to operate in Brazil,” explained the superintendent of Procon-BA, which is linked to the Secretariat of Justice and Human Rights.
Regulation
Known as the “'Bets' Law”, Law No. 14,790, of December 29, 2023, regulates fixed-odds betting in Brazil, defining guidelines for the operation of sports betting and online games. The legislation includes technical, financial and security requirements for operating companies.
Furthermore, it establishes measures to prevent money laundering, protect consumers and promote responsible gaming. Authorized companies must operate exclusively through websites with the domain (.bet.br). Failure to comply with the rules may result in sanctions, including suspension or revocation of authorization.
